Viewing or Copying Court Files
To obtain copies of a court file, you may hire a private agency
to assist you, go to the Clerks Office in the Courthouse to obtain
copies, or by submitting a written
request, including the appropriate fees to the Court Clerk.
Most civil court files are public records and may be viewed by
anyone. To see a Court file you must present a valid picture
identification such as a current driver's license.
Written requests
sent to the Court Clerk take approximately 3 to 4 weeks to complete
and require fees for copying, research, and postage. When
requesting by mail, please include the names, case number or approximate
date the case was filed and the number of copies you need. If you
do not have a case number, there is a search fee of $15.00 if the
search takes over 10 minutes. Enclose a self-addressed, stamped
envelope large enough to contain the copies you requested.
There is a copy charge of .50¢ a page. If you require the
document to be certified, please add $15.00 in addition to the per
page copy charge.
The check or money order should be made payable to the Amador Superior
Court.
If you are unsure as to the amount required to complete the search
and or copies you can send a letter to request the exact amount.
Checks written from private parties must be for a specific amount;
the court can no longer accept blank checks not to exceed a certain
amount. In the event you choose to send a check for a specific amount
the clerk will perform the search and make your copies until the
amount is exhausted, and then inform you of the amount necessary
to obtain the rest of the copies. If the copies made are not enough
to exhaust the amount of the check submitted, the court cannot make
or return change so the extra funds will not be returned. Written
requests for records searches will not be completed and returned
unless accompanied by a check or money order and a self addressed
stamped envelope.
